DescriptionLyal Leibrock was an integral part of the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies for many years culminating in his chairmanship of the Council from 1999-2001. He instigated the Leibrock Leadership Development Conference and was a moving force behind inclusion of neurosurgery residents in the Council. His long time stewardship of the University of Nebraska neurosurgery section and its training program endeared him to his cornhusker colleagues and the state that benefited from his leadership. He received the American Association of Neurological Surgeon's Distinguished Serve Award and for his unswerving commitment to the Council, he was named the 2004 recipient of the Council's Lifetime Achievement Award. To honor his memory, the Award was renamed the Leibrock Lifetime Achievement Award following his untimely death.
